It's impossible to see Yellowstone properly in less than a week and a longer period of time is ideal. We had two days. We drove from Cody to the East Gate, and then, across the park around the north side of the lake to West Yellowstone Montana where the campground was.
The scenery is awesome and the wildlife sightings were pretty good. It was a little difficult to stop at all the places we wanted to because we were in the RV towing the car. There were, however, a surprising number of places that allowed us to pull off but it wasn't the same as touring in a car.
On the east side we came down the mountain and the road was packed with cars pulled over to the side. This is a sure sign that there is a wildlife sighting. We got a glimpse of a Grizzly Bear just before he disappeared behind a large outcropping. This was the only bear sighting we had and it was even to brief to get the cameras ready.
We stopped near Fishing Bridge at a pull off with a view of Yellowstone Lake. It was a windy day and the waves in the lake were at least 2-3 feet. Totally amazing.
On day two we left West Yellowstone (the town) and decided to head for the waterfall near Cannon Village and continued around the loop road to the Old Faithful area. This drive involved a repeat of some of the area we covered in day one but it was just as beautiful the second time around. We ate lunch in the Waterfall parking lot and continued around the loop to Old Faithful.
When we got to the parking lot at Old Faithful the skies darkened and a few minutes after we settled in to wait of the eruption it began to rain and after a brief time it turned to sleet. This brought back memories of our last time here in 2014 when we waited in the rain with Mark and Kathie. I guess we have bad luck with Old Faithful.
All in all we had two great days in the park and because we traveled over 200 miles on day two we did get to see a lot of the park. If you ever plan to visit "Americas First National Park" make sure you leave plenty of time to explore. The park is enormous and there is so much to see and do. Enjoy the pictures.
