Marquette Michigan The UP 8/7 - 8/10

On Monday 8/7 we headed to Mackinaw, Michigan for lunch by the bridge then turned west in the UP (Upper Pennisula) to Marquette Michigan. The campground was Rippling River Resort which I would rate about a 6.5. A small campground in an ok location, but the sites were not well maintained and I had a hell of a time getting level.

We really didn't do much in Marquette except explore Lake Superior. We went to Presque Isle which is a park on the Lake and just rode around the area.

This area was built on the Iron Ore business with hundreds of kilns in the area. Their is still a business loading ships with pellets that are used to produce steel.

Each place we visit I'm busy searching out my t-shirts, hats, and magnets. In Marquette we really didn't do much and after eating our way through Traverse City we ate in the bus every night and only went out for lunch.

Not real thrilled with this town but we did get to see a lot of the UP. You really like to love trees and remote areas. Which I do!

Traverse City Michigan 8/4 -8/7

After Holly Mi. we boogied to Williamsburg Mi. which is just outside Traverse City. The Resort is Traverse Bay. This is a beautiful RV Resort. I highly recommend. They only took ClassA motorhomes up until a few years ago but now they accept 5th wheels and they have started a section with park model homes. The landscaping is really nice and the resort is quiet and calming. It isn't a real active park other that the people who summer here and know each other.

We ate our way thru the city, starting with the Apache Trout Grill. We both had walleye which was fantastic. The martini was great also. The next day we found a local hot spot for breakfast "The Omelette Shop" This was our second great meal with great omelettes that lasted us until our great dinner at Mode's Bum Steer. At 4:00 PM we went to church at Saint Josephs in Traverse City then headed for Mode's. The steak was great and the waitress was super nice. We met people who have a home here and one near Detroit. During our converation we found out that the husband knew a guy that was from Montoursville and it happened to be a guy that Eileen went out with in high school, Larry Bullock. It is indeed a small world.

We walked the town. bought Cherry stuff, and later took a ride up the pennisula to look at the homes. We have been to this area two times before and really enjoy it. The town is very nice, The people are friendly and their is a lot to do if you are so inclinded.

Eileen's back was still hurting her very much, so the first day here we visited a emergency med place. The doctor was nice and gave her meds and exercises for her back. Sure hope it helps because she is in major pain. I really could have relaxed here a couple more days. On Monday 8/7 we headed out to Marquette, Mi. This is in the UP of Michigan.
