It's 7/6/2008 and we have been back in NJ since 7/2/2008. The last part of our trip went very quickly and many of the campgrounds didn't have Wi-Fi so we didn't have a chance to post the blog. I will summarize our last two weeks and post some pictures, then I think I'll put together a summary listing the highlights of the entire trip.
We left Custer, SD on Monday 6/23 and drove a short 100 miles to Wall, SD. Wall is the home of the World Famous, Wall Drugs. What it really is, is a bunch of shops that bring in the tourists from the highway. The shops were interesting but not much different than the 100 shops we had been in during the earlier part of our trip.
Just south of Wall is one of the entrances to Badlands NP. This park is correctly named. This part of SD is desolate. We took a short ride into the park and read about the settlers who tried to homestead in this region. There aren't any homes left and the land is now just NP and pasture land. The chemistry in the rocks casts different colors that are really neat. This area is a plateau that has been carved by wind and rain over the years and has left many beautiful formations.
