Glacier National Park (7/28 - 7/31)

From Banff we headed south across the US border to Saint Mary, Montana. This is a little one whistle town on the east side of Glacier NP. The visitor center is about one mile from the town and just a couple miles from the campground.

On day two we got in the car and drove back across the border (different entrance) to Waterton NP which is the Canadian sister of Glacier NP. There is an old hotel here that is very unique and the surrounding areas are beautiful. We visited Cameron Lake and took a very short muddy walk, had a nice lunch in the town, and then drove up to Red Rock Canyon where a large crowd of folks were walking up the gorge along a crystal clear creek. We had a nice day. On the way home we saw our first Grizzly Bear along the highway. It was a good day.

On our third day we took the red bus tour into the park on the "Road to The Sun".
Our guide was great, and very knowledgeable about the geology and history of the park. This is by far the best way to see the park. It is beautiful. We went over the mountain with a stop on the top, at the Continental Divide, had lunch at McDonald Lodge on the west side, then we went back the same road with the another stop at the top. Our wildlife viewing was near the top. A herd of 29 Bighorn Sheep and a beautiful white mountain goat. I can't say enough about the beauty of this place. The pictures don't begin to capture it.

On day four Eileen and I drove up to Many Glacier which is another entrance into a portion of the park north of the campground. There is another old hotel here that we visited. We attempted to take a short hike but the crowds were so big that we couldn't find a parking spot. When we were leaving the hotel we did get to see Grizzly number two, on the side of the mountain. This one was bigger than the one we saw two days ago but much farther away. This park is a favorite. Enjoy the pictures.
